After an appropriate number of years, my family nest is empty. I am now fortunate to be able to enjoy the company of my adult daughters as they confidently find their way in the world. Throughout their years at home books were a constant source of entertainment and comfort and opened their eyes to the world. Dan and I shared our wanderlust with them, visiting museums and ballparks, nature preserves and cities large and small. And theater, everywhere.
Now that they are spreading their wings, it’s my turn to do the same! Reading has always been a big part of my life. Those who’ve known me the longest would agree that this figurine captures much of my childhood, right down to the haircut and fashion. A lot has changed. Day in, day out I am in search of new titles to share with book group members and people I meet. I’ve spent more than a decade organizing and facilitating book groups and sharing book topics and connections with a range of audiences. The Books page is where I’ll be sharing some reading resources.
If your book group is looking for a refresh that only a professional facilitator can provide, be in touch. Maybe your group is scheduling a retreat or day of learning and a presentation/discussion on a literary topic would fill out the program. Or the pace of your life has changed and you are looking for a book group to join. Let me help you enrich your reading experience.
My nose is not only in the books! Nothing like the first whiff of spring air to get me out and exploring. Following a path well-worn or just looking up to see the local architecture, there’s always something to see.
On the Wanderings page I’ll be putting excursions and tips for exploring near and far.
In whatever I do, it’s all about connecting with people and the community I live in. Whether I’m talking books, volunteering in the community or searching out a new trail to follow, finding people who share my passions enriches my life.
Please join me as I find my wings!
Thanks so much for following Oh, the Places We See. It’s great to get to know you through your blog also. You are indeed finding your wings and so much more! http://ohtheplaceswesee.com
So glad to see you in this new domain. Love the fact that you are a reader. (I’m a former English teacher, but can’t ever say I’ve read enough!) We’re also glad you travel — it’s one of the best ways to learn firsthand about the world, even the world at our own back doors. Best wishes in all you do! http://ohtheplaceswesee.com
Great page 🙂 I love to read, to travel and of course to write 🙂
I love books and traveling too so this is right up my alley. Looking forward to reading more 🙂
Welcome to my neighborhood! Look forward to getting to know you.
Here’s the question: Who/what influenced your love for reading, and set you on this path you have taken? Here’s the unabashedly banal plug for my blog: http://memoriesofatime.com/2015/12/23/some-great-teachers-growing-up-with-reading/ Thanks for taking a look. You have a great site–and have set up a major task/love for yourself. :o)
My family has always encouraged my love of reading. I find books a wonderful way to strike up a conversation anywhere. More than a dozen years ago I joined a book group, eventually becoming its leader and then leading other groups. Then I became involved with a book festival and had the opportunity to meet publishers and authors. It’s a big, wonderful world with lots of books! Thanks for asking and I will check out your site.
hey…read and travel is a great combination…following you now! 🙂 will go over to some posts now..
Glad you are a new visitor. I’ll keep trying to put up interesting material. Consider it a respite from the news.
Enjoyed reading this part of your blog and am looking forward to delving into your books section. Anyone who loves books is pretty special! Best to you…:-)
I’ll be looking for you! Enjoy your weekend.
I think I’m going to enjoy visiting other areas of your blog. I too love to read. I’m not only into books though. I read magazines, blogs, posters, billboards, packaging of different types, etc. I like to read.
It’s nice to have even more options I imagine now that your daughters are grown. It appears that you are keeping busy doing even more of what you love. Highest and Best!
